GRUB CUSTOMIZER - CUSTOMIZE THE START MENU

Grub Customizer

Grub Customizer is a application from the category of system customization which allows adjusting the boot menu of our PC when we have several operating systems. Specifically Grub Customizer deals with utility specific customization Grub. In my case I use Deepin as the main OS, and on another disk I have Windows.

Using this tool, you can add, remove and rearrange the boot menu entries. You can edit the parameters of the kernel and also choose to change the boot delay time, to boot from the default input. The software also allows you to make cosmetic settings such as changing the color of the text and the background image.

This small, but powerful program we get it for free in the App store de Deepin, pero si deseas obtener una versión más reciente del mismo entonces será mejor instalarlo desde Deepines Store, a store created for community members Deepin in Spanish and maintained by the community developer group, better known as Latin Code. It allows us to customize the menu. More information on how to install it below.

GRUB CUSTOMIZER KEY FEATURES
  • Move, delete or rename menu entries (they are updatable by update-grub)
  • Edit the content of menu entries or create new ones
  • GRUB2 and BURG support
  • Reinstalling the bootloader in the MBR
  • Settings such as default operating system, kernel parameters, background image and text colors, etc.
  • Change the installed operating system by running on a Live CD

As you can see in the first image, in the «List Settings»We can configure the order of the operating systems installed in the system. If we position ourselves on the entry in the menu for one of the systems, with the right button of the mouse we can edit the name. Also if you look at the program menu with the arrows, after selecting the YOU, we can raise or lower the position of it at will.

List Settings

The following image below shows the tab «General configuration»With which we can play with the time of the GRUB, as well as if when restarting the PC it returns to the selected OS or to a predetermined one.

General configuration

In the following image we see the tab «Appearance Settings»In which we can modify the background. Personally I recommend not modifying this parameter if they are satisfied with the background they have, since sometimes it does not work as expected (Unless the image used is in the correct dimensions and with the exact requirements of Grub Customizer, the end result could very well not be what you expected).

Appearance Settings

If you have reached this point then you have already managed to customize your boot menu. Once we adjust the values in each tab, we click on the button «Save" and ready. We can restart and see how it was.

I have been using it for years, it has never failed me, I use it to change the priority and the delay to load the different OS, not so much for the customization of funds and all that other string of things that can be done.

It's not bad at all, but I prefer to refind almost always, now in deepin that has its own beautified grub I don't see the need to use it.
